Saudi Arabia is a member of the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property and follows the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks under the Nice Agreement. Joining WIPO in 1982, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia established the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) to take the responsibility of protecting and supporting the IP rights in the Kingdom.

Term of Protection:

9 Years and 8 months from filing date and renewable for 9 Years and 8 months within 12 months before expiry or 6 months after expiry with surcharge.

Priority Deadline:

6 months from the priority application filing date.

Classification:

10th Edition – Single class application, Use of class headings, Designation of retail services and Addition to class heading (Class 33, alcoholic goods in Class 32, and pork meat in Class 29 cannot be registered).
