About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Patent & IP Specialist to lead our technical IP practice and drive strategic patent services for our growing international client base. This senior position combines deep technical expertise with client consultation leadership, quality control authority, and portfolio management across multiple IP types.

As our lead technical IP authority, you will manage end-to-end patent services including patents, industrial designs, utility models, integrated circuit layouts, and plant variety rights across national, regional (GCC, EPO, ARIPO, OAPI), and international jurisdictions (PCT). 

This role offers significant career advancement potential as the patent practice scales from individual contributor to full practice area leadership.

What You'll Do

Client Consultation & Strategic Advisory

  • Conduct patent consultations with clients seeking patent protection across diverse technology areas
  • Assess patentability (novelty, inventive step, industrial applicability) and translate complex technical concepts into clear IP strategies
  • Recommend multi-jurisdictional filing strategies (direct national, PCT route, regional systems)
  • Provide freedom-to-operate analyses and patent portfolio optimization guidance
  • Support licensing, valuation, and commercialization strategy discussions

Quality Control & Technical Review

  • Final approval authority for all patent documents before client delivery
  • Review patent specifications, claims, and drawings for technical accuracy and protection adequacy
  • Evaluate office action responses and ensure effective arguments against examiner objections
  • Verify granted patents provide adequate commercial protection
  • Maintain >99% accuracy rate with minimal post-approval corrections

Patent Prosecution & Portfolio Management

  • Manage all office action responses annually across multiple jurisdictions
  • Develop prosecution strategies including claim amendments and technical arguments
  • Oversee patent families, PCT national phase entries, and portfolio reviews
  • Coordinate with foreign patent associates and technical specialists
  • Manage patent docketing, recordals, and compliance across jurisdictions

Multi-IP Service Coordination

  • Industrial Designs: Assess design novelty, coordinate registrations (Hague System, national)
  • Utility Models: Determine appropriate protection routes and manage filings across GCC, China, Germany
  • IC Layout Designs: Coordinate semiconductor layout protection with specialists
  • Plant Variety Rights: Advise agricultural/biotech clients on UPOV-compliant protection

Prior Art Research & Search Strategy

  • Scope and instruct comprehensive patent searches (patentability, FTO, landscape)
  • Analyze search reports and provide actionable filing recommendations
  • Identify key prior art and assess prosecution challenges

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and mentor Junior Patent Specialist 
  • Conduct bi-weekly training sessions with execution team
  • Develop patent-specific SOPs, templates, and quality systems

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or Technology (Essential)
    Preferred fields: Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Physics, Chemistry
  • Qualified Patent Attorney or Registered Patent Agent (Highly Preferred)
    USPTO, EPO, or other major jurisdiction registration
  • Master's/PhD in technical field (Advantageous)

Experience

  • Minimum 7-12 years in patent prosecution and IP portfolio management
  • Strong hands-on experience with PCT and multi-jurisdiction patent filings (Essential)
  • Proven track record managing patents from filing through grant
  • Experience drafting patent specifications and claims
  • Extensive office action response and prosecution experience
  • Exposure to industrial designs, utility models, or related IP areas (Required)
  • Client-facing consultation and advisory experience
  • Experience managing foreign patent associates and vendors
  • Leadership/mentoring experience preferred

Technical Expertise

  • Expert knowledge of patent law and prosecution across multiple jurisdictions
  • Deep understanding of PCT system and national phase procedures
  • Strong technical comprehension across diverse technology areas
  • Proficient in patent classification systems (IPC/CPC)
  • Expertise in prior art searching and patentability analysis
  • Strong claim drafting and prosecution strategy skills
  • Knowledge of patent databases (USPTO, EPO, WIPO, Google Patents)
  • Understanding of industrial design, utility model, and plant variety protection
  • Familiarity with patent portfolio management software

Language Requirements

  • Fluent English (written and verbal) - Essential for patent specifications and international communication
  • Arabic language skills highly preferred for GCC client interaction
