Libya has relaunched electronic publication of trademarks through its official online
portal. Libya Commercial Registry Department resumed the online Trademark
publication services after a period of suspension.
Around 500 trademarks (publication numbers 55261–57597) are now accessible for
public inspection.
This is a significant development for brand owners with existing or pending
trademark registrations in Libya.
The window to act is narrow. The statutory trademark opposition period is strictly 30
days from the date of publication , making prompt trademark watch and trademark
monitoring essential for every rights holder.
At the same time, the portal's search functionality is currently limited to queries by
trademark name, as further technical updates remain underway.
This makes professional trademark clearance search and trademark monitoring even
more critical, since the system's limitations can cause rights holders to miss
conflicting marks.
There are also unresolved administrative uncertainties. The official schedule for
subsequent publication batches has not yet been clarified by the authorities, and a
formal response is still awaited regarding previously filed trademark applications that
remain unpublished, particularly those approaching trademark renewal deadlines.
For businesses with pending trademark applications, trademark portfolios, or brand
protection strategies in North Africa, this development demands immediate
attention. Key action points include reviewing newly published marks for trademark
conflicts, assessing pending applications for trademark prosecution status, and
ensuring trademark renewal timelines are not missed during this backlog period.
